Designer: Elie Saab

I absolutely love Elie Saab’s lavish, fairy tale creations. They are glamorous and sophisticated with very distinctive feminine and romantic themes.

The self taught, Lebanese designer (born July 4, 1964) became interested in designing clothing for women at the mere age of 9. At the age of 17, he went to Paris to study Fashion Designing, but a year later in 1982, he returned home and opened his own workshop with 10 employees.

 He became an overnight success after he became the first Lebanese designer to dress an Oscar winner, Halle Berry, in 2002. Berry wore a burgundy gown by Saab to the 2002 Academy Awards when she won the Best Actress Award. After which the designer was bombarded with interviews and appeared on at least 5 TV networks. Berry later wore another dress by Saab, this time a gold dress, to the 2003 Oscars.

 

Saab specialises in bridal couture making wedding dresses and evening gowns using rich fabrics, lace, detailed embroidery, pearls, crystals and silk threads. His style is a unique fusion of western and eastern culture. He uses noble materials such as taffeta, organza, chiffon and satin paired with more fluid and light fabrics.

 

His evening gowns are very renowned for their elegance.

When it comes to wedding gowns, he exhibits a sense of romance and softness by his use of hand embroidery

Elie Saab is an exceptional designer indeed. A true inspiration for an aspiring young designer such as myself.

Think I've Found Myself

I AM STILL TRYING TO WRITE MY DESCRIPTION for this blog, and it's almost impossible to get it right. I don't want to make it too long and sound like a bore. But in a couple of words how do I describe my vision accurately enough that whoever stumbles upon it or takes a chance on me, at least knows what they are getting themselves into.

I have changed the name of this blog once already, from The Closet to Mannequin, all due to my indecisive nature. My initial reason for wanting to blog was for a school report. With The Closet I intented to show case the current Fashion influences on the streets of Windhoek, Namibia. Basically your average "street style" section of a fashion magazine with reference to our local stores, for a more Namibian feel. But, having  looked at some of the other Fashion Blogs for ideas, I found there to be too many similar existing ones already.

So, hence the change to Mannequin. The same concept as the previous but featuring myself, rather than the general (stylish) public, dressed in locally available clothing. I thought this would benefit all those Namibians who aren't on sites like Lookbook.nu. Again, this idea didn't set me apart from the "already existing."

I then came upon this quote (by the way, I collect quotes) and it was as if it described me perfectly, "Passionately Curious."

So, not only am I going to change the name of this blog, yet again, to "Passionately Curious." I think it might just be the last time I do so. With this blog I will not limit myself to just Fashion related things, No sir! I am going to explore every curious bone in my body and write, caputure, you name it, on this platform. The Arts and Crafts, DIY's, Fashion, Qoutes, Beauty and many more...

All in all, this will be my Creative Dairy. Gone are the days of cutting and pasting in scrapbook, which do nothing but gather dust. Times have changed and I am finally getting with the program. The Moto for my blog will be....

Jan Mohr Secondary School Matric Farewell 2013

It is that time of the year again, Matric Farewell time. Time for the senior learners to show off, dressed in their best...

Although there were many beautiful gowns and suits worth mentioning, I'd like to pay tribute to the couples who complemented each other beautifully. Carefully consideration was given when planning what to wear and clearly it was a well thought out affair, with involved both parties. Nowadays so little attentions goes into how you'll look as partners, as one is more concerned with one self.

I therefore, take my hat off for the following couples, who looked beautiful together as partners. A job well done..,

And that same note, I'd like to applaud those who were very innovative in their choices...

Her name is America... And she wore a dress made out of The American Flag.

The Cleopatra Theme was indeed unique.

Beauty tips I've picked up in 2014

Instead of towel drying your hair, use an old t-shirt. Towels can make your hair frizzy and prone to breakage.

A strong lip color is an easy way to draw attention away from imperfections. It lessens the visual impact of both acne and tired eyes.

The best way to get rid of ingrown hairs is to exfoliate, which rids the skin of dead cells and allows hair to break through the surface.

To keep your phone (and face) bacteria-free, wipe it down with disinfecting wipes a few times a day. It helps prevent acne.

When in doubt, neutral makeup works with any outfit and is hard to mess up.

Even if you don't wear make up always fill in or atleast shape your eyebrows. It gives you an instant face lift

If you burn yourself using an iron, put plain yogurt on burn. The coolness will help with swelling and the yogurt will reduce redness

Always allow about two fingers from your nose to where blush starts

Clean your makeup brushes by mixing 1 tbsp of white vinegar in cup of hot water. Soak for 15 mins

One of the reasons mascara will flake onto your face after you apply it is because it's old. Replace mascara every 2-3 months!

20 Rules A Woman Should Live By

While browsing through the internet, I stumbled upon an interesting read, "Girls Guide To BETA." I thought I'd share their, "20 Rules A Woman Should Live By" segment with you guys. I've added my own 'first thing that popped up' comments though, to make it more personal, more relatable.
Here goes...

1. Men are an amazing part of life, but they are in no way the be all and end all of life. (Amen to that, just need to keep reminding myself of it)

2. It's okay to admit that you're young, fab and NOT broke. Celebrate your success.

3. Don't waste time crying over little boys who talk too much. Someday you will find the one and then all that happens in-between will just seem like bullshit. (Some will be hot and unforgettable bullshit, but nonetheless bullshit.)

4. It's okay to be 22 or even 32 or 42 and not know what you want to be when you grow up. (I will probably be one of those people)

5. Many people will try to judge your spending and life style habits, don't let it get to you. It's your life, your money and no one else's business. (Mxm not in this Windhoek of ours.)

6. If you like being single, it's okay to admit that. Maybe you like being alone. (A friend of mine comes to mind.) Maybe you like just dating and hooking up. Guys like these things and the world has no problem with it.

7. In business it's likely that men twice your age with half your brain capacity will be making triple the money that you do. Work hard anyway, never give up, you are the brain and voice of tomorrow.

8. Your parents already lived a bulk of their life. It's time to start living yours. It is possible to both respect them and be happy. Sometimes they may get mad at your choices, make those choices anyway, they love you and will eventually come around. (Ja, after kicking you out of their house.)

9. It's okay to order extra cheese (on everything) and not go to the gym after.

10. No matter how old you are by number, never forget what it feels like to be young and alive.

11. People are always going to talk, so just do your thing. You may as well give them something to talk about. (Amen!)

12. Having one too many shots with your girlfriends on a Saturday night doesn't make you an alcoholic, it just means you're having a good time. Anyone who tells you other wise is jealous. You work hard all week and deserve time to get your party on.

13. Don't keep company with those who constantly compare themselves to you (or others). Keep company with those who love you for you and enhance your life.

14. If you can't find your prince, there is nothing wrong with enjoying kissing all the wrong frogs. (I am so going to get my kissing on.)

15. Live your life for you: not your parents, not a man, not your friends. It is the only way you will ever truly be happy.

16. You're never too old to learn something new. (True.)

17. In your life you will wind up with a select few friends who are more like your soul mates. Cherish them, they'll be the ones around when the party is over. (Too help clean up.)

18. You're going to make mistakes: the wrong career, the wrong major, the wrong boyfriend. Everything happens for a reason- You'll learn something, recover and come back better than ever. (Like Pow, in your face!) 

19. Live each day with no regrets. Don't fret over the past, even the bad parts shape us for the future.
